About Scratch Golf:

Scratch was founded in 2003 by Ari Techner, our President/CEO; Chad Techner our COO; Jeff McCoy, our Chief Design Engineer and Master Craftsman; and Paul Friedrich, our VP of Tour Operations. Jeff has been grinding golf clubs since High School and has an incredible talent for shaping golf clubs, having worked on wedges for many of the top players in his area. Scratch was originally started to fill a hole in the golf market that we identified as nobody was making custom wedges one at a time to fit the individual player. Custom fitting had become all the rage in golf but nobody was doing anything to fit the proper wedges to the players swing. Before we sold even one wedge we spent a year on R&D, testing different wedge grinds with different players swings and determined exactly what worked and why. Our grind fitting system puts you into one of the three swing types that we identified: the Sweeper/Slider, Driver/Slider or Digger/Driver. These swing types and our fitting system is based on this extensive R&D and real world player testing. Our first product offering was our Tour Custom wedges that are handmade one at a time by Jeff McCoy. Soon after that we released our Tour Custom irons to satisfy a serious demand from our existing customers. 2006 saw the release of our retail JLM wedges while our retail irons were released in 2007. 2009 saw the release of the 1018 and 8620 wedges which, along with our Tour Custom Iron/Wedges and our Retail Irons comprise our current product line. We have also seen great success on the various major worldwide Tours. 2006 saw Scratch wedges in play on the Nationwide and PGA Tour for the first time. We graduated one player using our wedges from the Nationwide Tour to the PGA Tour at the end of that year and by the end of 2007 we were the No. 1 forged wedge on the Nationwide Tour. In 2008 Scratch wedges won two tournaments on the Nationwide Tour and in 2009 we had our first win on the LPGA Tour. 2009 saw Scratch really break onto the PGA Tour as top player Ryan Moore switched to our irons and wedges the week after the final FedExCup tournament. All of this was done without paying players tee up money to use our clubs.
