The narrowly spaced grooves on the face are designed to “grip” the ball and produce a faster forward roll, limiting the ball’s skidding after impact. The grooves reduce the face’s contact area with the ball by 80 percent, which softens the feel. The Trinidad model has a hard, wear-resistant finish that’s created through an intricate plating process.
“It’s different, but not as goofy as it looks.” . . . “Makes me want to smile.”
“It rolls like it’s on tracks. I wanted to hate this but I can’t—it just performs too well.” . . . “If it weren’t this color, it would be world-class.”
Center-shafted blades are not typically for the masses. This one drew unanimous raves for its roll from our testers.
To call the hallucinogenic rainbow effect of the Tropical finish a love-it-or-hate-it thing would be generous.
