The precision-milled face insert can be replaced as it wears down. TaylorMade estimates that grooves begin to lose their effectiveness after about 1,000 strikes, and grooves that are worn lead to inconsistent launch angles and less spin.
"The distance control is very good. It's not a digger or floater: the bounce is just right.""The interchangeable insert is not tingy. It's soft-sounding."
"The sole grind and turf interaction are practically flawless. You can hit it high or low, and that's rare. Chipping is a breeze from the rough and from tight lies."
Interchangeable face inserts are one solution to the new groove rule. That's because pre-2010 face inserts can be used for at least another decade by average golfers. In other words, this is the only wedge that can accommodate U-like and V-like grooves.
A greater list of options is overdue for a leader in innovation.
