The grooved-face insert in these putters is made from a Surlyn polymer—a lighter, softer material than the aluminum alloy used in the blades—to appeal to players who prefer a soft feel. The grooves deflect at impact to promote faster forward roll. All three mallet models have a high moment of inertia (MOI) for consistency on off-center hits.
Low-Handicapper:
“The ball holds the line well off the face, and there’s reliable distance control.”
Middle-Handicapper:
“This insert has good feedback, and the black-on-white alignment is effective.” . . . “Feels like you’re rolling it with your hand.”
Hot:
The shade of white in this year’s Ghost putters is more muted than last year’s. Our eyes appreciate it.
Not:
The Manta’s look evokes descriptors such as “spatula,” “dinner plate” and “a blade with a wing.”
