The story on this cavity-back iron is in the hitting area. Using Japanese SAE 8655 (a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel) to produce a thin face, Nike designers were able to achieve more distance in a forged iron. The X3X groove pattern places more grooves closer together than is conventional to create more spin.
Low-Handicapper:
“Wow! I might have found our valedictorian! A lot of zip coming off the face.”
Middle-Handicapper:
“The face felt a little hard, but the look at address gives you confidence before you start your swing.”
Hot:
Nike has been overlooked for too long as a maker of equipment for serious golfers. The VR_S has a refreshing shape and gets high marks for not jacking up its lofts.
Not:
Serious golfers deserve a commitment to fitting.
